The Ouachita Telegraph - Murder of James Harvey

(This article seems to imply that James Harvey killed a Samuel Dawkins
in self defense, and a few months later, this same Samuel Dawkins shot
James Harvey in revenge.  Surely there were two Samuel Dawkinses - or
one of the Dawkinses had a different name.)

Murder of James Harvey.
 We learn that Mr. James Harvey, a resident of this parish, was shot and
killed by Samuel Dawkins of Bienville parish, while making a trip with
his wagon this week to Lake Bisteneau.  The shot seems to have entered
the back of the head, penetrating the entire brain and lodging against
the front teeth.  Samuel Dawkins whom Harvey killed in self defense some
months since, and it is supposed that he slew Harvey merely through
revenge.  A jury of inquest pronounced the killing to be murder.  Up to
this date Dawkins is at large.  Mr. Harvey leaves a large family to
lament his untimely end. — Vernon Standard, 15th.
