All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Alice Lee Sutton Baird Shreveport, LA – Graveside services for Alice Lee Sutton Baird, age 93, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 16, 1996 at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave., under the direction of Rose-Neath’s Marshall Street Funeral Home. Officiating will be Dr. Pat Day, pastor of First United Methodist Church. Funeral home visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, December 15, 1996. Mrs. Baird passed away Friday, December 13, 1996 in Shreveport, La. after a short illness. She was a native of Bienville Parish, La., where she attended Bear Creek Elementary School and Bryceland High School. She was a retired school teacher with the Caddo Parish School System, having spent may of those years at Werner Park Elementary School. Mrs. Baird was a member of the First United Methodist Church, attended Louisiana Tech and the University of Maryland, where she received her Masters Degree of Education, having received a B.A. degree from Centenary College in 1944. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Haynes Baird. Mrs. Baird is survived by her nieces and nephews, including Janice Cox, Evelyn Cole, Charles Sutton, Georgia Kleinhenz, Erwin Sutton, Sr.,Pauline Roper, Alice Peyton, Darrow Sutton, Joan Belmont, Juanita Flores, Geraldine Grant, Leslie Sutton, Ferrel Sutton, Denny Sutton, Alicia Tucker, and Robert Sutton. Alice Baird will be remembered for her devotion to her students, of the Children’s Books that she wrote and her artistic abilities reflected in her writing and her painting. The family suggests that memorials may be made to Centenary College.
