Arcadia, Bienville parish, Louisiana April 17, 1919 Page 7; Column 5 MR. S. S. CARRIKER DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS At an early hour Thursday morning, Mr. S. S. Carriker, one of Arcadia's oldest and best known citizens passed away, after a long period of acute suffering from cancer of the stomach. He has been a resident of this place for 34 years, and for several years was engaged in the mercantile business here. Mr. Carriker was a member of the Presbyterian church, of which he was an elder. He was also a member of the Arcadia Lodge, No. 126, F. & A. M. He is survived by his wife and other relatives. It can be said of him that he was a devout Christian, a consistent Mason and worthy citizen; and his presence will be greatly missed. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock, his remains being laid to rest in the Arcadia Cemetery. Additional Comments: Sidney S. Cariker named is spelled with an extra "R" in this obituary. His headstone at Arcadia Cemetery has it spelled "Cariker" with one "R." Other documents also spell the name both ways. S. S. Cariker was born January 7, 1842 in Heard County, Georgia. He was married to Mary "Fannie" Rasberry in Tallpoosa County, Alabama on November 1, 1866. She was born in 1842 and died on December 27, 1929. They share a monument in Arcadia Cemetery, however, Fannie's death date was never carved into the headstone. S. S. was a Private in Company I, 3rd Regiment, Alabama Infantry from 1861-1865; he surrendered on April 9, 1865 in Appomattox, Virginia.
