January 8, 1920 Page 1 HONORED CITIZEN PASSES AWAY IN SANITARIUM (By Mrs. D. E. Brown) A feeling of universal sorrow was manifested by this community on the learning f the death of one of our most highly honored citizens, Mr. A. L. Crowson, which sad event took place at Schumpert Memorial Sanitarium, Shreveport, Sunday noon, after a brief illness followed by an operation, which he underwent successfully, leaving his friends and loved ones hopeful of a rapid recovery, when sudden developments for the worse took place and death quickly followed. Mr. Crowson possessed one of those strong personalities that we cannot connect with death and it is indeed hard to realize that he has passed away. Just in the prime of life, with a large and interesting family around him, the love and esteem of his friends life offered much but we are again reminded that "In the midst of life, we are in death." Mr. Crowson, during his terms of office as Clerk of Court of Bienville Parish came in touch with the entire citizenship of the parish, and his strict attention to his official duties, his genial and kindly nature, won him the esteem and friendship of all. Besides this office, he has held various positions of responsibility and has reflected credit to every position. His life has been marked by a spirit of progress, a love for humanity, and a broad interest in community welfare. At the dime of his decease, Mr. Crowson was a member of the Board of Aldermen of this place, he has been an honored member of the local school board, a Mason of the 32nd degree; a member since childhood of the M. E. Church. He was an active leader in the Boy Scout campaign last summer and was made an honorary member of that organization. He was the son of one of our best loved North Louisiana Methodist ministers, of pioneer days, Rev. R. L. Crowson. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Fannie Hames Crowson; five sons, Paul, Bryan, Johnnie, Hugh and A. [L.] Jr.; three daughters, Mrs. J. B. Story, Misses Fannie and Stella Crowson, a brother, Mr. Dick Crowson, of Bienville, and many other relatives. Mrs. Crowson and Mrs. Story accompanied Mr. Crowson to Shreveport, and it is sad indeed to know that Mrs. Crowson developed a severe attack of pneumonia since her arrival at the santitarium and her condition is very critical. She is not conscious of her husband's death. The funeral was conducted at the M. E. Church, by Rev. W. H. Jordan, in a very impressive manner, and concluded at the cemet[e]ry by a large assemblage of Masons. many and beautiful floral offerings, spoke elequently of the esteem and love of sorrowing relatives and friends. May our Heavenly Father with His loving and tender mercy, comfort the bereaved ones. Additional Comments: On Page Two of the same issue of The Bienville Democrat, a memorial article was written about the death of A. L. Crowson by Foster E. Taylor. Below that, an announcement of the death of his wife, Francis "Fannie" JAMES Crowson three days after A.L. Crowson's death, both at Schumpert.
