Martin, 81, Dies at Home Near Gibsland Following Long Illness Gibsland – L.F. Martin, 81, a pioneer citizen of Bienville Parish, died at his residence here Sunday afternoon. He had been ill for the past 8 months. The deceased was among the earliest settlers of this section, coming her in the late 1870’s. The Martin family, many of whom were officers in the Civil War, came to America in 1710 from Ireland and settled in Virginia, from whence Mr. Martin moved here. Funeral services were held from the Gibsland Baptist Church Monday afternoon at 3:30 with the Rev. J. H. Smith of Gibsland, assisted by the Rev. C.W. Caldwell of Arcadia and the Rev. Jones of Mt. Lebanon and the Rev. E.A. Dennard, officiating. Interment was in the Gibsland cemetery under direction of the Conger Funeral Home. Pallbearers were J.H. Houck, C.A. Stinnette, E.L. Reed, L.C. Stall, Albert Wynn and A. Hicks. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosa Cammack Martin, and eight children: L.E. Martin and W.L. Martin of Shreveport, W.D. Martin of Arcadia, Mrs. Eugene Walters of Vienna, and H.B. Martin of Ft.Worth, all of whom were present at the funeral; and Louis Martin, Washington D.C.; Mrs. W.B. Stagg of Port St. joe, Florida, and J.A. Martin, Wheeling, West Virginia.
