Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery in Ringgold, LA. Officiating the services will be Rev. Jerry Sheffield. Kent was preceded in death by his parents, Maston and Gertrude Wiggins; his wife Hazel Gandy Wiggins; his daughter Judith Wiggins Plunkett; his brother C.D. Buddy Wiggins; his sister Madeleine Wiggins Frost; and a grandson, K.C. Plunkett. He is survived by two daughters, Robin Hollowell and her husband Jerry and Tommie Sue Coffey and her husband Shelton; a special niece, June Foster; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; a great, great granddaughter; and one expected great, great grandbaby. Kent was born on March 26, 1923 at his home in Jamestown, being the oldest of three children, and passed away peacefully on December 2, 2009. He graduated from Castor School, married his sweetheart for life just before serving in the U.S. Navy from 1940-1945. Kent was in the Battle of Rennel Island where he was aboard the USS Chicago in the Pacific Ocean when it sank after being torpedoed in 1943. He was also a hospital apprentice in the Navy. Carpentry, handy man work, malt shop ownership, and AMF Beard Industries kept Kent busy for many years. He was a lifetime member of RM Crowson Lodge in Castor. Fishing, being with family and friends while eating fish, and traveling with Hazel were some of his favorite things. If you know anything about Kent, he has probably told you stories of past experiences, sometimes in the mornings at the General Store. Kent sounded gruff, but was a big teddy bear at heart. He spent his last few months at the Northwest LA War Veterans Home in Bossier City, LA where Robin, Tommie, Rae, Kerry, and an excellent staff have taken care of him. He will be greatly missed. Pallbearers will be Jason Plunkett, Mark Plunkett, P J Bamburg, Bubba Bamburg, Bobby Sanders, and Dan Smith. Rockett Funeral Home, Ringgold, LA.
