This is Bienville Parish mailman, Ben Riddle and his horse around 1909.  Ben 
is my maternal grandfather and was very proud of his service as a postal 
carrier.  Paw Riddle always laughed about people being intimidated by his 
pistol and asked if he needed for bandit encounters.  He assured all it was 
for shooting snakes between himself and mail junctions.  He also met his wife, 
my grandmother, Bessie Mae Mitchell, along his route.  They lived in the tri-
parish area of Bienville, Jackson, and Natchitoches parishes.
