Mrs. Bixler had been in poor health for some time and had been seriously ill for three weeks prior to her death. She was born April 1, 1856 in the old Bellevue community of Bossier Parish. She was married March 4, 1879 to Thomas Benton Bixler. Since 1901 she had resided in Plain Dealing having moved to that place from the Pleasant Hill Community. Her husband preceded her to the grave by a number of years (Oct. 22, 1922). She had been a devoted member of the church since early life, her membership being in the Plain Dealing Methodist Church. She had been a member of the Masonic Daughters' Degree order since 1870. Funeral services were held from the Family Home in Plain Dealing, Monday afternoon, with Rev. T.J. Holladay, of Eunice, in charge. He was assisted by Rev. P.B. McCullin, Rev. M.M. Miller, Rev. J.B. Williams and Rev. Ernest Scott. Interment was in the Plain Dealing Cemetery. Mrs. Bixler is survived by six children: Willie Durden Bixler of Oklahoma City, Ok., Thomas Clifford Bixler of Blooming Grove, Texas, Mrs. Clio Edith Bixler McCary of Houston, Texas, John Andrew Bixler of McKinney, Texas, Robert Schumpert Bixler and Mary Katherine Bixler Bryce both of Plain Dealing, La. A sorrowing concourse of loved ones and friends gathered to pay their last respects to this good woman, who in life had endeared herself to so many. The Banner joins with a host of friends in extending condolence to the loved ones, in this dreary hour of sorrow, but would say to them, your Mother, loved one, and friend is not dead, but sleepeth, for she has merely passed from this life to her well-earned and peaceful reward. -- (*Note from submitter- Mary Hannah Durden Bixler was daughter of Newsome Andrew Durden and Elizabeth Rebecca Young Durden of Bellevue, La.
