All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** * ~Bossier Banner News~5 April 1945 Following a brief illness, Mrs. Lottie (Charlotte Young) Burks, widow of Fielding Jackson Burks, died Sunday at 12:30 o'clock, at the home of a daughter, Irene Johnson of the Ivan Communty. She was born at Rocky Mount February 19, 1855, and thus was in her 91st. year at the time of her death. The funeral service, held Monday afternoon at the Rocky Mount Presbyterian Church, was conducted by Rev. Roy Lee, of Benton. Burial immediately followed in the Rocky Mount Cemetery, the following named six grandsons serving as pallbearers: Willie, Tommie, W.J., Andrew and Rodgers Johnston, and John Burks. The deceased is survived by two sons: Robert Charles Burks of Clayton, William Lee Burks of the Ivan section. Three daughters aside from the one above named: Mrs. Carrie Johnston of Sarepta; Mrs. Vashti Westbrook of Ferriday and Mrs. Cora Lynn, whose home is near Benton; 39 Grandchildren and 35 Great-Grandchildren. Mrs. Burks, who was long a member of Pilgrims Home Baptist Church, Ivan Community, was esteemed as an excellent Christian woman and a kindly and lovable neighbor. She had long resided in the section where her death occured, was well known, and will be greatly missed as one of such admiration traits as are here named. Condolence is extended the grief stricken members of her widely scattred family.
