W., Death of Special to the Times-Haughton July ? - Our community has been saddened by the death of our valued citizen, Captain G. W. Scott, who for two years just past has resided at Durr. La., After great suffering for several days, he died at 12 o'clock on the ?(2)nd instant and was laid to rest in the Fillmore Cemetery on the 4th instant, being just ?? years 2 months old. Captain Scott was a gallant soldier during the civil war, a part of the time being with the cavalry commanded by Captain J. Y Webb of Minden, and later serving on the staff of his brother, Brigadier General T. M. Scott, doing valiant service in many hard-fought battles. It is hard to know that he has left us, but ?? his age we know that it is a natural though and consequence, We all have to "pass under the rod." Captain Scott leaves a wife, a daughter and several grandchildren, and a sister to mourn his loss, 'but may the divine spirit comfort his loved ones in their great grief. To them, especially his sorrowing widow, we extend our sympathy. May they feel he doeth all things well. Additional Comments: Durr Louisiana was a "new" sawmill town south of Haughton on the edge of what is now Barksdale AFB. George Walter Scott was a resident of Claiborne Parish in the 1880 Census.
