Mr. Michael Smith died at his residence in this place on Friday, Oct. 8, 1897, aged 86 years, 9 months and 28 days. Mr. Smith was a native of Meath county, Ireland. He settled in Bossier in 1845, and made this parish his home from that time until his death. He was a citizen highly esteemed-true in all the relations of life-kind and sincere as a friend, with a warm and sympathetic heart, he was always ready to help where help was needed. A good man and useful citizen, who has spent the best years and the best energies of his life here, has gone from us, and the announcement has brought sadness to many hearts in this parish and where he was known. Deceased leaves a son and two daughters-Mr. Joannes Smith and Misses Mary and Rosa Smith-to mourn the death of a devoted father, and the hearts of our entire people go out to them in their bereavement. Mr. Smith's remains were buried in the Catholic cemetery in Shreveport last Saturday, a large number of his friends from this parish attending the funeral services Additional Comments: Michael Smith is interred at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Shreveport. Michael and his wife, Ann, were Irish immigrants. They had four children: Francis, Joannes, Mary and Roselle (Rosa) Smith. The Smith's lived in Bellevue, Bossier Parish, then Benton.
