B., of the Louisiana Bar, graduate of Louisiana State University and a practicing attorney of the Shreveport Bar, is the author of "The Cyclopedia of Oil and Gas Forms," a volume published by the Thomas Law Book Company of St. Louis, Missouri. This book, according to the publishers is "almost indispensable in both office and field work to lawyers in all oil producing states and in states where any exploration is being made; to officials, agents, land men, lease buyers and title curative men of large and small oil and gas companies, producing, refining leasing and operating; to independent operators, lease brokers, drilling contractors, royalty and mineral trading individuals and companies; to real estate men in oil producing states, particularly in smaller towns; to notaries public, abstractors and abstract companies and to bankers in the smaller towns of oil producing sates. The publishers in discussing the need of such a Cyclopedia goes on to say, "in the background of the petroleum industry lies a complex system of regulatory contracts, agreements and documents drafted in a form, employing a terminology and for the accomplishment of purposes peculiar to and as a rule comprehended only by the Oil Fraternity and its associates. In order for these documents to correctly establish the respective liabilities, privileges and obligations of the parties and to intelligently handle their subject matter, it is necessary that certain forms be used and certain phrases and clauses whose intent is mutually understood and whose meaning has been interpreted and defined by judicial precedent emanating from courts of last resort be used. This volume supplies a ready reference of approved and accepted forms. It is a book which has long been needed by lawyers and oil operators. "The forms are of daily general use and of practical importance. Except in a comparatively few instances they are not available to the legal profession and the Oil Fraternity either in printed or book form. "The volume has been so compiled and arranged as to be of practical application and service in all the states. "The forms are up to date and have been selected from documents construed and accepted by the courts of last resort in oil producing states and drafted and approved by the most competent legal talent and leading petroleum operators, producers, refiners and carriers in the mid-continent and other fields including the counsel and officials of the major and minor oil and gas companies and independent operators and brokers." Mr. Benoit is one of Shreveport's most prominent and popular lawyers and the publication of his first volume of legal reference work has occasioned many compliments and congratulations from his friends and fellow members of the Shreveport bar. ======================================= From Chronicles of Shreveport and Caddo Parish, Maude Hearn O'Pry, 1928, Page 334 ======================================
