BURRIS was born in 1893, in Baton Rouge, the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Burris. His education was gained from the High School in Baton Rouge. He received the degree of B. S. from the Louisiana State University, and, it seems all the while he was looking toward being a "dog doctor," so he finished in the Kansas City Veterinary College, of Kansas City, Missouri. While in school, young Burris was quite prominent in athletic circles; held the Inter-Scholastic High Hurdle; member of the Olympic team, the activities of which were seriously affected by the opening of the World War; Members of the Foot Ball team in the Kansas City Veterinary College; member of Alpha Psi; member of the Masonic Shreveport Lodge No. 115; affiliated with the First Presbyterian church here and has been in business in Shreveport nine years. To be treated "like a yaller dog" in Dr. Burris' clinic means just the opposite of the old adage. Everything is as attractive as if for human beings. Dr. Burris married a young lady who was reared on the same block with himself, Miss Vera Herbert, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They have three children: Rose Merilyn, W. B., Jr. and Stuart. =============================== From Chronicles of Shreveport and Caddo Parish, Maude Hearn O'Pry, 1928, Page 337 ======================================
