WILLIAM KENNON HENDERSON is one of the men of Shreveport who has written the word, "Success" in blazing capitals in every undertaking. He was born on August 6, 1880, in Bastrop, Louisiana, the son of William Kennon Henderson and Mamie Jamison Henderson. When but a small child his parents moved to Jefferson, Texas, where he received his public school education and then attended Thatcher Institute at Shreveport and later graduated from St. Edwards College at Austin, Texas, with high honors, W. K. Henderson began his business life at the bottom in his father's machine shop, mastering every phase of it, working there from 1900 till 1916, when he entered the automobile garage business which soon became the largest in the world. This garage was known as "Henderson's Garage." Soon after the father's death in 1919, Mr. Henderson disposed of the garage business and assumed the presidency of the Henderson Iron Works and Supply Company. It was large when W. K. took charge of it but now has become known as the largest business of its kind south of St. Louis. Mr. Henderson is not only a leader in the business world but is found fostering progressive civic and cultural movements and has made a name that stands emblazoned as one of the most important builders of the city of Shreveport. Mr. Henderson is also the originator of the famous Henderson Industrial Plan. His interests are many. Some of them are: President of the W. K. Henderson Iron Works and Supply Company; President of the Henderson Land, Timber and Investment Company; President of the Yellow Cab Company; Vice President of Lindsay Printing Company; President of the Chamber of Commerce for 1925; Director of the Chamber of Commerce, and the sole owner of extensive private telephone systems and furnishes Shreveport with one of the most powerful radio stations in the country. The large transmitting plant was established at Kennonwood, the country estate of Mr. Henderson located about 18 miles from Shreveport. This station is known as KWKH. The Shreveport Country Club, the Shreveport City Club and the Order of Hoo Hoo furnish Mr. Henderson with recreation. Mr. Henderson was married on January 12, 1927, to Miss Josic Carter.
