The name “PLUNKETT”, per The Book of Irish Families”, is among the leading families of foreign origin in Ireland. “The name itself is cited by leading authorities as of old French origins, coming from a corruption of the word “blanchet”, meaning white.” It is believed the first PLUNKETT arrived in Ireland at the time of the 12th century invasions. It has remained a noted “Irish” family name since, with considerable influence as a Catholic family. Dunsany Castle stands as a Plunkett castle today and the “Plunkett name is listed as a true Irish name among rolls of Irish families”. John and Ada PLUNKETT’s descendants continue to meet each year in Minden LA, the third Sunday in July. It is a very close family, with many, many of the descendants contributing to this family history.
