S. M. Thomas killed Hugh Dickson 18 miles from Shreveport, charging him with having drugged and ruined his, Thomas' daughter. Thomas went into Dickson's room and shot him through the head while Dickson was sitting on the bed. Morehouse Clarion May 6, 1881 -- Page 2, Column 3 Capt. Thomas, who recently shot and killed Hugh M. Dickson, near Shreveport, has been convicted of manslaughter. A motion for a new trial was filed. Morehouse Clarion May 13, 1881 -- Page 2, Column 3 The motion for a new trial in the case of the State vs. Capt. Thomas in Shreveport was overruled and the following sentence was passed by the Court: "One hour in the penitentiary and a fine of one dollar." The Judge, Jury, and many of the most prominent citizens of that city signed a petition to the Governor for the pardon of Thomas. Of course it will be done.
