A memorial service was held at 11:00 a. m. on Friday, March 30, 2007 at the Hosston Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Larry Allen, Pastor of the church. A private family graveside service followed. Mr. Ballard was born on August 26, 1914 in Hosston, LA and was a resident of Hosston and Oil City all of his life. He was an active, lifelong member of the Hosston Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. As a Christian and charitable man he served his church and assisted many people during his lifetime. Mr. Ballard was a member of the Oil City Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He belonged to the Ida Masonic Lodge number 324. He was the President of Caddo Pine Island Corporation, and in the early 1950's he studied law privately and later practiced law as a second profression after passing the bar exam. Mr. Ballard was preceded in death by his parents, John William Ballard and Nora Wynn and sister, Ruth America Ballard. He is survived by his wife, Ann Bickham Ballard; brother, Frank Ballard of Minden, LA; sisters Regina Taylor of Texas City, Texas and Rita Norris of Vivian; sons, John R. Ballard and wife, Sue, and Pete Ballard and wife, Linda; grandchildren, Sonny Ballard, Beth Ballard, Julie Spencer and husband, Chuck, Jan Griffin and husband, Jason, Mickey Ballard and wife, Sue Ellen, David Ballard and wife, Aimee, Traci Miller and her husband, Andrew, Nita Fontenot and husband, Russel and Hannah Miller, Jake Ballard, and Will and Cole Ballard; and several brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, numerous neices and nephews, and many friends. The family requests that memorials be made to the Hosston Baptist Church. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Mr. Ballard's caregivers, Sandra Herring and Kathy Hiller as well as the sitters, nurses, doctors and staff of Willis-Kinghton Pierremont.
