All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Oct 1, 1989 Miss Betty Jane Grigg WASKOM, TEXAS - Betty Jane Grigg, 18, of Waskom, Texas died at Schumpert Medical Center as a result of an automobile accident on 1-20 near Marsahll, Texas on Sunday, October 1, 1989. She was a resident of Texas for the past 5 years, being a former resident of Shrevport. Betty Jane was presently a student at L.S.U. Shreveport majoring in child psychology. She was a graduate of Elysian Fields High School. She was honored there as a cheerleader, in the Homecoming Court, serving as Senator, Treasurer and President of the Student Council. She was distingushed by being appointed to Who's Who in American High Schools as well as in the Society of distinguished American High School students. She was voted Most Beautiful, Most Likely to succeed and Miss Elysian Fields High School. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Chirst of Latter Day saints where she received the distinguished Young Women's Award. Among her many civic and church services she was a Girl Camp Counselor, a graduate of LDS Seminary (with honors) and a Sunday School teacher. Betty Jane or "BJ" as she was called by those close to her, was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Jewel Estelle Crawford Grigg, and her maternal grandfather, Gurvais Rhame Monroe. She is survived by her loving parents, Clayton C. and Lou Anne (Monroe) Grigg of Waskom, Texas; two sweet sisters, Bobbie Kathryn (Grigg) Sevy of Houston, Texas and Charlotte Elaine (Grigg) Sanders of Karnack, Texas; and one beloved brother, Gurvais Clayton Grigg who is serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Guatemala, Quetzaltenano Mission, her parternal grandfather Glade Crawford grigg, Bienville, LA and her maternal grandmother, Kathryn Monroe Roberts, Shreveport, LA. Betty Jane will have special services to pay tribute to her life on Wednesday, October 4, 1989 at 2 p.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Shreveport Stake Center. Officiating will be President John F. Woodman of the Longview, Texas Stake assisted by Bishop Gordon Ganschow of the Marshall Ward Chapel. Interment will be in Forest Park cemetery immediately following funeral services. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath's Marshall street chapel. Funeral home visitation hours are on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
