BROOKS, Leon Eric, Jr. Leon Eric Brooks, Jr., 73, of Shreveport and a native of LaSalle Parish, died at the family's farm near Ft. Necessity in Franklin Parish. He was the father of country music singer, Leon "Kix" Brooks, half of the topselling duo Brooks and Dunn. Leon Brooks was born and reared in Urania. His father, Leon Brooks, Sr., Worked at Urania Lumber Co., until his death and his mother taught in the Urania Grammar School until her retirement. Leon graduated from Urania High School and Louisiana Tech and worked in Shreveport until his death. He was also the father of former Shreveport Times business writer Ben Brooks, who is now the publisher of Port Isabel-South Padre Press in Laguna Vista,Texas. He is also survived by two daughters, Midge Vreeland of Yarmouth, Maine and Lisa Brooks of Nashville, Tenn. (The Jena Times, Wednesday, January 28, 1998)
