Bernard Black was a native and resident of Shreveport, LA and was a member of Midway Missionary Baptist Church, No. 2. He was a 1956 graduate of Booker Washington High School. Brother Black retired from AT&T after 30 years and Schumpert after 12 years. He was known and loved by many, many people. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rachel Robinson Black and J.B. Black; his sister Viola Black Dotson and 3 infant siblings. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Wood Black; 5 daughters: Sandra Burns, Sheila B. Connors, Gwendolyn Black, Cora Black and Debra B. Alonzo (Jack) Oliver Jr., 74, was called home to his heavenly Father on September 18, 2007. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 21, 2007 at 6:00 - 8:30 pm at Hill Crest Funeral Home in Haughton. Services will be conducted on Saturday, September 22, 2007, at 1:00 pm by Father Redmond Raux of BAFB followed by interment with full military honors at Hill Crest Cemetery in Haughton. Jack was born in Evansville, IN to Alonzo and Marion Oliver. He joined the US Air Force and retired after 21 years of service, which took him to many states in the US, Canada, Europe, Africa, Greenland, the Pacific, and Southeast Asia. After retirement, he was involved in the restaurant business and owned his own restaurant. He was an active member of the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Posse since 1998. He was first and foremost a dedicated husband, father, papa, and great grand papa. Family was always his priority. His smile and gentle touch will be forever missed by his loving family and friends. Jack enjoyed working in his yard, taking care of and photographing his pond, koi, flowers, and especially roses. A constant and faithful companion was his beloved dog Coco, who followed him everywhere and especially liked to ride in the truck with his daddy. He was preceded in death by his infant son Edgar Josef, daughter Linda Oliver Fakess, his parents, brothers Garland and Edgar Oliver, and sister Ruby Chapman. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Erna; his son Ernest and wife Rita; his son in law John Fakess; sisters Winnie Bradley, Jean Riley, Janiece Vowels and husband David, Charlotte and husband Jessie Kirkwood, and Suzanne Crowley; brothers Jack Burdette and wife Sim, Harry Burdette and wife Darlene, Gail Burdette and wife Kim; grandchildren Anthony Fakess and wife Ashley, Katherine Fakess, Vincent Fakess, Patrick Fakess, Christopher Loiselle, and Ethan Oliver; great grand children Ashton and Kelsy Marie Fakess; and numerous nieces and nephews here and in Germany.
