M. Christian, Dies Suddenly" "Was Born in 1852 in Log Cabin Still Standing at Reynolds and Christian Streets" C. M. Christian, 78 years old, pioneer resident of Shreveport, died suddenly at his residence, 2714 West Maple Street, at 4 o'clock Sunday morning following a heart attack. The log house, built by the parents of the deceased, Mr. and Mrs. George Christian, in 1830, in which C. M. Christian was born, still stands as a land mark at Reynolds and Christian streets. Mr. Christian was prominent in the city's religious and fraternal circles. He was a devout member of the First Presbyterian Church, and had been active for 27 years in the affairs of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. In 1874 the deceased was married to Miss Nanie Hendricks, also a resident of Shreveport. In 1908 his first wife died, and two years later he married Mrs. Jane Cameron, of Shreveport. She was with him at the time of his death. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon at the family residence by Dr. Jasper K. Smith, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, and the Rev. S. T. Francis, pastor of the Westminster Presbyterian church. Members of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows will serve as pallbearers, and will officiate at the grave. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery under the direction of Wellman Undertaking company. Surviving the deceased besides his widow, are four daughters, Mrs. J. P. Hamel, Mrs. Charles Hamel, Mrs. Robert Keoun and Miss Bertha Christian, all of Shreveport; a son, C. M. Christian, Jr., Shreveport; and six grandchildren, Wade, Claude, Clarence, Christian and Charlie Hamel and Robert Keoun, Jr., all of Shreveport.
