All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Dr. Edwin Henry Byrd / Caddo Parish, LA SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services for Dr. Edwin Henry Byrd, 83, of Shreveport, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 1991 at Rose-Neath's Marshall Street Chapel, with Dr. Wallace Palmer of the First Baptist Church of Leesville, Louisiana, officiating, and assisted by Dr. Lynn Jones, pastor of Highland Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath's Marshall Street chapel. Dr. Byrd died Tuesday, October 8, 1991 at Schumpert Medical center following a lengthy illness. He was born in Milville, Arkansas, on September 26, 1908, the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. E.J. Byrd of Camden, Arkansas. He was a graduate of Bearden high School in Bearden, Arkansas, Ouachita Baptist College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and an honors graduate from the University of Arkansas School of Medicine in 1934. Dr. Byrd practiced medicine for 48 years before his retirement. He founded the Byrd Memorial Hospital in Leesville, Louisiana. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association, and a member of the Louisiana State Medical Society for 50 years. He was a member of the Board of Vernon Bank in Leesville, and the Coroner of Vernon Parish. Dr. Byrd was a member of the highland Baptist Church in Shreveport, and Previously served as a Deacon in the First Baptist Church in Leesville. He was a 32nd Degree scottish Rite Mason, Master Mason of Leesville Lodge 240, and was a member of El Karubah Shriners Temple. He was also a member of the Lions Club in Leesville and was one of the principals in the founding of the Lions Club Camp for Crippled Children in Leesville. Dr. Byrd was preceded in death by two sisters, clarice McElvany and Clyde Byrd. Dr. Byrd is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elaine Monroe Byrd; three sons, Dr. Edwin Henry Byrd, Jr., and his wife Frances, Dr. Charles Ronald Byrd, and his wife Pam, and Dr. William Augustus Byrd, and his wife, Beverly, all of Shreveport; one daughter, Pamela Byrd Heard, and her husband Dr. Steven heard, also of Shreveport; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Lou Lilly, and her husband, Jim, Mrs. Virginia Whiteside, and her husband, Dean, all of Little Rock. Arkansas, and Mrs. Josephine Roberson of Camden, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, Mrs. Gayla Byrd Hargrove, Edwin Henry Byrd, Iii, Brian Lee Byrd, Charles Ronald Byrd, Jr., James Patrick Byrd, Mary Emily Byrd, Brooks Edward Byrd, Carol Ann Byrd, stephen Cooper Heard, and Jospeh Andrew Heard; and three great grandchildren, Emma O'Leary. hargrove, Kemerton Dean Hargrove, Jr., and Edwin Henry Byrd, IV. Pallbearers will be Dr. Byrd's grandsons. Memorials may be made to the Lions Club Camp for Crippled Children in Leesville, Louisiana
