Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at McGuire Funeral Home Chapel in Vivian, La. with Rev. C. V. Holley, of the Potter's House, in Vivian officiating. Interment followed at Vivian Cemetery. Mrs. Herring was born on July 4, 1920 in Quitman, Texas. She died on Friday, May 4, 2007 at Trinity Medical Center in Carrollton after a lengthy illness. She was a resident of Carrollton for the past ten years and a former resident of Oil City, La. for 55 years. She retired from the CAddo Parish School systerm after serving as a bus driver for 29 years. Mrs. Herring was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Herring; her granddaughter Lynn Avant McGowan; four sisters and one brother. She is survived by one daughter, Martha Avant, of Carrollton; granddaughter Lisa Avant Rogers and her husband, Dean, of Carrollton; great-grandson, Joshua McGowan, of Carrollton, and great granddaughter, Mackenzie Rogers, of Carrollton. Mrs. Herring was a member of the Full Gospel Church and loved to help others. She will be remembered as a good Christian woman. Serving as pallbearers were Teakus Weaver, Slick Dickey, Walter Fowler and two grandsons.
