She has died, but her contributions to public education live on. At the age or 76 years or age, Mrs. Holmes had served on the School Board 29 years. She was an able representative of the people of District "B" and knew almost every one of her constituents in Gilliam, Belcher, Dixie, Rodessa, Ida, Mira and her hometown of Hosston. Mrs. Holmes was respected by her colleagues on the School Board, especially for her efficiency. She was always keenly aware of the school system's problems and particularly the problems of her district. She was always up to date on the school board's policies. It was indicative of her profound interest in public education that in her first 24 years on the School Board she missed only four meetings. She was en route to a school board meeting last Wednesday when she was fatally injured. A compassionate woman, Mrs. Holmes took special pride in the educational progress of the underprivileged. As she noted in announcing for re-election in 1965: "I am proud to have had a part in our very fine school construction program in the parish. Twenty-four years ago, we have (sic) over 80 small one- and two-room wood frame Negro schools, but today we have consolidated these into six large new brick schools with a full program of education in each." Mrs. Holmes will be missed. The Times joins her many friend in extending our condolences to her family. Note: Parent's Obituaries (J. J. Roberson and Helen May Roberson) On File In Bossier Parish
