Source: The Shreveport Times; Thursday, June 11, 1964; Page 6A S. H. Hoss Rites To Be In Hosston Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Hosston Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Denton, pastor, officiating, for Samuel Houston Hoss, 51, who died Tuesday. Burial will be in Hosston Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home of Shreveport. Mr. Hoss, formerly of Hosston, was found dead in his room at the Charles Hotel, 416 Crockett St., at 3:30 p.m. by his mother, Mrs. L. W. Holmes. Caddo Coroner Dr. Stuart DeLee said Hoss had been under medical treatment and death was apparently due to natural causes. Mr. Hoss, an accountant, was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Vivian and the Ida Masonic Lodge. He had served in the U. S. Army in World War II. Survivors include two daughters, Cathy and Martha Jeanette Hoss, both of Vivian; his mother of Hosston, and two sisters, Mrs. Jeanette H. Smith, Arlington, Va., and Mrs. Glen (sic - Glenn) Kellogg, Little Rock, Ark. Source: The Shreveport Times; Wednesday, June 10, 1964; Page 11-A Man Found Dead Here A 51-year old Shreveport man was found dead in his room at the Charles Hotel, 416 Crockett St. at 3:30 p.m. yesterday. Samuel Houston Hoss, a former resident of Hosston, had lived at the hotel for about a year. Caddo Coroner Dr. Stuart DeLee said Hoss had been under medical treatment for some time and death apparently was due to natural causes. The body of Hoss was found by his mother, Mrs. L. W. Holmes of Hosston who went to visit her son. Detective Sgt. Joe Russell said Mrs. Holmes thought her son was only asleep but when she couldn't waken him she summoned a doctor, who called police. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Rose-Neath Funeral Home. Note: Samuel Houston Hoss, Jr.,is the brother of Martha Hoss Kellogg and the son of Samuel Houston Hoss, Sr., and Annie Viola Roberson, who was later remarried to Louis Watley Holmes.
