LaVerne passed away peacefully on Saturday morning February 9, 2008. Although she gave of herself to everyone, her greatest joy in life was giving to her children. This gift of love will live in the hearts of her children forever. LaVerne graduated from Duke University in 1934 where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She was a 74-year member of First United Methodist Church, where she was member of the administrative board and served on many important church committees, and she was a loyal member of the Lucille Sexton Sunday School Class. Additionally, she was a member of Hypatia, the Demoiselle Club of Shreveport, Shreveport Country Club, Shreveport Club, the Cambridge Club and a sustaining member of the Junior League. Even in her nineties, she remained a gracious hostess. What gave her the greatest joy in her final years was entertaining her beloved neighborhood swim club. She had a passion for travel and was fortunate to see much of the world. Of significance was her mission work with her family in Utila, Honduras. The family extends special gratitude to her caring physician, Dr. Trung Duong and her loving caregivers Sophie Hall, Murlean Willis and Sharon Taylor. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Shreveport. Rose-Neath Funeral Home
