Funeal services for Mr. William "Bill" E. Powdrill, Jr., 75, will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 2, 1998 at Broadmoor United Methodist Church in Shreveport, LA Officiating will be Rev. William Peeples, pastor of Broadmoor United Methodist Church of Shreveport. Assisting will be Rev. Benedict Galloway, retired pastor of Broadmoor United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998 at Walton Cemetery, Carthage, TX. Bill died at his home Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998 after a courageous battle with cancer. Bill was born in Shreveport, LA, but moved to Minden, LA at an early age and graduated from high school there. He entered the U. S. Army in 1943 and served during WWII in the Americal Division in the Marshall Islands and Tokyo, Japan. Following his Army discharge in 1946, he returned to Shreveport and went to work for KCS Railroad as a locomotive engineer. After 28 years of service with KCS he retired due to ill health. He was a mason, an avid sports fan and fisherman. Bill was a longtime member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Powdrill, Sr. ofMinden, LA, his sister, Artie Day of Minden, LA and his brothers, O. V. Powdrill of Minden, LA and Timothy Powdrill of Pineville, LA. Survivors include his devoted wife of 51 years, Ouida Steger Powdrill; his son, William E. Powdrill, III and his wife, Karen; three loving granddaughters, Melissa, Meagan and Michelle Powdrill all of Shreveport, LA; one sister Juanita Mims of Metairie, AL; his nieces Sherry Mims Banks, Linda Powdrill, Judy Powdrill and Sarah Day; his nephews, Barry Mims, Jerry Powdrill and Geary Powdrill; and numerous other relatives. Pallbearers will be Jim Cross of Shreveport, LA, Marvin Higginbotham of Ruston, LA, Archie Epes of Shreveport, LA, Jimmy Wallace of Shreveport, LA, Barry Mims of Mandeville, LA, Jerry Powdrill of West Monroe, LA. Honorary pallbearers will be former members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class at Broadmoor United Methodis Church.
