SHERWOOD SUMPTER SEARCY

Shreveport,LA

MOORINGSPORT, LA., - Services for Sherwood Sumpter Searcy, age 90, of 
Mooringsport and Shreveport, Louisiana will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, 
October 22, 2008, at Mooringsport Baptist Church in Mooringsport, Louisiana. 
Officiating will be Rev. Kenny Cargill and Rev. Wes Searcy. Interment will 
follow in the cemetery in Mooringsport, under the direction of Rose-Neath 
Marshall Street Funeral Home.

Mr. Searcy went to his heavenly home on Saturday, October 18, 2008, in Tyler, 
TX. He was born in Shreveport on May 16, 1918. Sherwood resided in 
Mooringsport for 55 years with his beloved wife, "Snookie". He loved his 
church, Mooringsport Baptist Church, and served as deacon and church treasurer 
for 35-40 years. After retirement from SWEPCO, this loving couple enjoyed many 
wonderful trips. He never met a stranger as attested to by the many people he 
stopped and visited with on his daily walk to the Post Office with his 
faithful companion, "Shuggie". He was a hard working and loving husband, 
father, and grandfather.

Sherwood is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Sarah Bess "Snookie" 
Oliphint Searcy; parents, Sumpter and Pearl Searcy; grandson, Matthew Ryan 
Searcy; sisters, Allene Woodall and Muriel Macklin; and brother, Alvin Searcy.

Mr. Searcy is survived by his two sons, Gil and wife, Marcy of Tyler, TX., 
Alan and wife, Dannie of Shreveport; daughter, Gail and husband, Mitchell 
Sumrall of West Monroe; grandchildren and spouses, Wes and Colleen Searcy of 
Dallas, TX., Gil and Denise Searcy of Tyler, TX., Holly and Kenny Cargill of 
Austin, TX., Clint and Monica Searcy of Celebration, FL., Jason and Randi 
Searcy of Briston, TN., Amy Sumrall of West Monroe, Scott and Alana Sumrall of 
West Monroe; fourteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Nelwyne Burks of 
Shreveport and Patty Word of Sparta, TN., and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be his son-in-law and grandsons, Mitchell Sumrall, Scott 
Sumrall, Clint Searcy, Jason Searcy, Gil Searcy, Christian Folk and Timothy 
Cargill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Mooringsport 
Baptist Church or the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home in Monroe, Louisiana.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 21, 
2008, at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Funeral Home in Shreveport, LA.
