J.V. Duhon, Lake Charles. - J.V. Duhon is a native of Calcasieu parish,
Louisiana, born in 1844. He is the son of C. And A. Duhon, both natives of this
State.  His father was a planter and stock raiser.  He was reared, married and
spent his whole life in Calcasieu parish.

The subject of this sketch grew to manhood in Calcaseiu parish, and received his
education in the schools of this place.  In 1862 he entered the Confederate
service and enlisted in company A, Eighteenth Louisiana Regiment, in which he
served until the close of the war.  He was in the battle of Mansfield, besides
numerous other hotly contested engagements.  At the close of the was
he returned home and emgaged in farming.  In 1869 he married Miss Eliza Benoit,
a native of Louisiana, they having become the parents of twelve children, eight
of whom are living.  Mr. Duhon is one of the successful planters and stock
raisers of this section; he owns from twelve to fifteen hundred acres of land -
only a protion of which is under cultivation.  He raises principally
stock of merchandise in connection with the mil lin which he is interested.  He
is a prosperous business man.
