Typed by Margaret Rentrop Moore Dossilee H. Hebert, Iowa Station - D.H. Hebert, a successful planter of Ward 3, in a native of Louisiana, born June 4, 1844. He is the son of Lastie and Lucy (Augustine) Hebert, natives of Louisiana. His father was a planter, and was reared, married and spent his whole life in Calcasieu parish. There were born to this union ten children, four sons and six daughters, seven of whom are now living, the subject of this sketch being the oldest son. Lastie Hebert was a soldier in the late war, serving from 1861 until the time of his death in 1864. His widow still survives him, and now resides with her daughter, Mrs.Alice Lazie. The subject of this sketch was reared and educated in his native parish. He was married in 1865 to Miss Mary Haze, who died in 1883, having become the mother of eight children, viz: Leoneze, Adam, Daniel, Michael, Margaret, James. Mr. Hebert, in 1861, enlisted in Company B, Twenty-eigth Louisiana Regiment, serving until the close of the war. When the war was over he returned home and engaged in planting. He is considered one of the most successful planters of his neighborhood, and owns one hundred and sixty acres of land, one hundred and thirty of which are under cultivation. The principal products of his plantation are rice and sweet patatoes. His farm is located fifteen miles northeast of Lake Charles and five miles north of Iowa Station. It is well improved and bears evidence of good management. Mr Hebert is a public-spirited man, and is foremost in all efforts that tend to the promotion of his section. In 1883 he married a second time, Miss Eliza Mither; to this union have been born four children, Amelia, Mary D., David, Paul. Mr. Hebert is giving to each of his children a good, practical, business education.
