Typed by Margaret Rentrop Moore JOHN McCORMICK, LAKE CHARLES.-John McCormick was born in St. Landry parish, Louisiana, 1835. He is the son of Michael McCormick and Mary A. Lee. Both parents are dead; the father having died in 1839, the mother in 186o. The subject is one of a family of five children, and the only son. He spent his school days in Opelousas. At the age of fourteen he left school and entered the office of the St. Landry Whig, where he served three years as an apprentice, after which he was connected with the same paper for six years. In 1877 he came to Lake Charles, and here he engaged in a printing office until 1881, when he founded the Commercial, which he has since conducted. Mr. McCormick was married, in January, 1860 to Miss Mary C. David, of St. Landry parish, Louisiana. They are the parents of ten living children, five sons and five daughters. The eldest son, Charles M., is connected with his father in the newspaper business.
