Typed by Margaret Rentrop Moore JAMES SIMMONS, Sugartown, Calcasieu Parish.-James Simmons was born in Calcasieu parish in 1833. His father was a native of Mississippi, and his mother of St. Landry parish, Louisiana. His father is now a planter in this parish. The subject of this sketch was reared and received his education in Calcasieu parish. He has been a planter and stock raiser all his life. Mr. Simmons has twice married, first Miss Jemima Cole. His last wife is Miss Eliza Barrentine. He is the father of nine children. In politics Mr. Simmons is a Democrat, though he takes no special part in political affairs. He is a member of the Baptist church.
