Cleveland Fruge'. ------------------------------- Goulding William (Bill) Swift, Jr., Judge, Fourteenth District, Division "C", was appointed July 25, 1960, took oath August 3, 1960, and on November 8, 1960, was elected for a full six-year term beginning January 1, 1960. He was re-elected without opposition in 1966. Judge Swift was born in Arlington, Texas, on April 1, 1917, moved to Lake Charles in 1924 and, except for approximately seven years during the thirties when his father's business took him to Nebraska, Virginia and Texas, has lived in Lake Charles ever since. He was educated in the public school and at Washington and Lee Universities and Louisiana State University. He is the son of Elsa Brock Swift and the late Goulding W. Swift. He is married to Betty Jane Richardson and they have three sons: Bill, Jim and John. Judge Swift is a veteran of World War II, having served in the In- fantry and also as a combat pilot of a B-24 Liberator bomber in the South Pacific. He is a member of the American Legion. He was admitted to practice in the State of Louisiana on July 30, 1940, and was associated with the law firm of McCoy & King from 1940 until 1948, when made a partner. He was a partner in the same firm (the name of which was subsequently changed to Anderson, Swift, Hall, Raggio & Farrar) until he assumed the bench. He is a member of the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He is also a member of the Judicial Council of the Supreme Court of Louisiana. In 1970 he served temporarily by assignment on the Louisiana Court of Appeal, Fourth Circuit. The Judge has served as President of the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association and as a member of the House of Delegates of the Louisiana State Bar Association. He has served as President of Boys' Village; President of the local YMCA; Chairman of the Calcasieu-Cameron Chapter of the Red Cross; Calcasieu- Cameron Fund Chairman of the March of Dimes; Co-chairman of the Red Cross Audrey Disaster Fund; a member of the executive committee of the Calcasieu Parish United Appeals; a member of the Board of Directors of the Lake Charles Association of Commerce; a member of the Board of Directors of Boys' Village, and a member of the Board of Directors of the local YMCA. Judge Swift is a member of the First Methodist Church in Lake Charles and has served on its Board of Stewards. * * *
