Hi Mount Cemetery was read on 10 April 1997 by Margaret Moore and Jan Craven.  It is believed that the majority of the people buried here are of African-American descent.  There were an unusually high number of unmarked graves, a total of 126 graves had no marker, which was over half of the graves.  The graveyard is surrounded by a hurricane fence and is located on Center Street, just north of Prien Lake Road, next to the water tower in Lake Charles. The oldest marked grave appears to be 18 Sept 1921.
