At 2 A.M. a severe storm with very heavy rain and cleared off in the afternoon. APRIL (SATURDAY) 1 Cold with hard N. wind. Eugine took my letter to the ferry. 2 Fine day. Eugine returned with Filoneeze. Got my oxen with the loss of the bell 3 & 4 Both fine days. Hauling garden fence fm Mr. Alston's old place. Replanted corn. 5 Continues fine. Looking for my young horse that got away Yesterday with a rope. Eugine at work on the garden fence. 2 Fine day. Finished heoing at Adolph's. Hoeing and replanting in our field. 3 & 4 Both warm days. Finished garden fence. Employed as yesterday. 5 Rain all last night. 6. Rain again last night. Hoed a few rows corn. 7 Fine warm day. Boys cut a bee tree which was very good. Sent for a Dr. did not get one. 4 Fine day. Reading all day. 5. Warm & dry. Went to the Big Wood and returned as far as Onlizime's. Boys in at 10 1/2 P. M. Js ploughing at Adolph's. E., C. & Bell went to Lake Charles. 2 & 3 Both fine days. Hoed cotton patch and in the garden. 4 A little shower. Eugine ploughed white corn. Boys at Big Wood. 5 & 6 Showers both these days. AUGUST (Tuesday) 1 From Adolph's to Pujo's. Took dinner at Mr. Moss, thence to Onlizime Vincent's. 2. No rain. Went to the Big Wood Post Office, deposited 1.50 F with Eli Perkins, coming 1st July. 3 Fine day. Mart Ann delivered of a little boy about 1 P.M. 4 & 5 Very warm. Lookg for horses 6. Hard rain. 7. Warm, Reading. 8 Fine day. Finished pulling fodder in the little clearing. 9 A very warm day. Tied up fodder. Not much work done today. 10&11 Both fine days. Pulled fodder in rice patch. Penned cattle last evening. Pet sow & blk ? brot. pigs up. 3 Rain. Mr. Alston branded ad turned cattle out. Got some meat fm him. 4 Rain. Cut some peach trees down in the big pen. 5 Fine day. Js at Mr. A's. 6 A little rain. Ploughing cow pen. Sowed turnip seed. E'ne and Hy at Big Wood, 7 Fine day. 8. Warm and no rain. Killed a three year old beef. 9 & 10 Both very warm days. Mr. Foreman preached here both days. 11 Continues warm. Picked some cotton and a sheet of peas, 12 A hart rain, cut tobacco. 13. Fine. Eliza went to Reese's, brot a box soap and 31 lbs coffee. 14 Fine. Mr. A. sowed some cabbage seed. James returned from the Lake. 15&16 Both fine days. Gathered corn out of little & part out Potato patch. 17 Rain in the evening. Water right to the yard fence. 22 Partially cloudy, with a little rain. Water began to take a fall. 23&24 Some light rains. Water out of the pasture. At home reading. 25 Rain. Picked a blanket of peas. Caught four wild pigs and put them in a pen. Mr. Alston breaking in corn. James went to help him. 26 Rain. Cut tobacco, not very good. Gathered the remainder of the corn out of the low ground, smart of it spoiled by the overflow. 27 A few small showers. Gathered a blanket of peas for the horses. Planted a small bed of onions. My black gang came up at night. 2 & 3 Fine day. Went to the prairie; took dinner at Alden Perkins, thence to Adolph's. 4 Warm. Got $15.00 fm Simion Vincent. Went to the store, then to Mr. Moss's. 5 Still warm ? . 6 & 7. Killed a cow from James. 8 Fine day. Cut up meat. Tied up rice at Mr. Alston's. 9& 10 11&12 Rain each day. Picked some peas at Mr. Alston's. 13 Cleared off. 14. Warm. Expected Mr. Foreman here, he did not come. 15 Warm. Part of the pet gang came up, spayed two sows out of it, and two of the house pigs. Went to Houston's. Took my letter, settled with him. He brought me in debt $7.00 4 Pleasant. Eliza at Pantal's. 5. Cool. Paid Onlezime by Eliza. 6 Very cool. 7. Still cool. Finished digging potatoes at home. 8 Continues pleasant. Eliza went with the boys to thrash rice, brought home a barrel. 9 Rain all the afternoon. Adolph digging his potatoes. Planted out a bed of onions. 5 Cold enough for frost. 6. Sleet last night. Commenced on a bank of potatoes. Got a hog of Adolph Derosiers & Humphry one 284 lbs. 7 Frost. Cut small pines behind the field. Boys at hog hunting. 8 Frost. Boys killed 5 hogs. My spotted in potato patch had seven pigs. Brought a bank of potatoes home. Hy pd for 8 lbs. coffee at H-n's. 9 Cloudy. Went to Mr. Alston's, they were moving to the new house. 10 Wet disagreeable day. 11. Cold. Boys working over the creek. 12 A very hard frost. J. went to Resse's & Onlezime's. Hauled 5 lbs corn fm A's. 13&14 Frost both mornings. Had a little ball here at night. 15&16 Frost both days. H & J went to A. Derosier's. J - C -ne at Onlezime's. 17 No frost, cloudy & warm. Henry broight me a pair of shoes fm A. Derosier's. E. Church & Belle started for the lake, sent two hides by them. 18 Fine cold day. Sent to discontinued my paper. Cut down some small pines in the potato patch. (?) looking for trail on 6 hogs. 19 Frost. E. returned fm the lake.
