Hutchinson Phillips, of Minden, mother of Mrs. L.R. Henry of 1056 Louisiana avenue, died in Minden at 3 a.m. Sunday. Mrs. Henry was with her mother at time of death. Funeral services were scheduled in Minden at 3 p.m. Monday. Besides Mrs. Henry, Mrs. Phillips is survived by one son in Shreveport and two other daughters; Mrs. T.A. Glass and Miss Lillian Phillips, both of Minden. The late Mr. Phillips was sheriff of Webster parish for many years. LCAP Page 2 Oran Demeritt, 49, Rites in Sulphur SULPHUR, La. Dec. 13, (Spl.) Funeral services for Oran Demeritt, 49, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the home of his son Jasper, on the DeQuincy highway. The body will be taken to the Pentecostal church at 2:30 for further services with the Rev. C.C. Williams officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn cemetery. Demeritt died at 6:50 a.m. on Monday at his home on the DeQuincy highway. He had lived here for the past 20 years. A longshoreman, he was a member of the Pentecostal church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Demeritt; two sons, Jasper and Jason, both of Sulphur; five sisters. Mrs. U.V. Hoffpauir, of Sulphur, Mrs. Opal Trahan, Greenville, Miss; Mrs. Elray Dunaway of Johnson Bayou, Mrs. Murl Dalley of Effie, La., Mrs. Vernon Brockman of Alexandria; two brothers, Lawrence Spell of Texas, and Joseph Spell of Sulphur, one grandchild. LCAP December 13, 1949 Page 4 Mrs. Erma Doucet Funeral in Welsh WELSH, LA Dec. 13 (Spl.) Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Monday at the Catholic church in Welsh for Mrs. Erma T. Doucet, 59. Mrs. Doucet died at 3:35 p.m. Saturday in her home. The Rev. J.O. Daigle officiated. Burial followed in the Catholic cemetery of Welsh, Hixson funeral home in charge. Mrs. Doucet was born in Elton, but had lived for many years in Welsh. She is survived by her husband, Malone Doucet, of Welsh; one daughter, Mrs. D.J. Brown, of Welsh; one son, WIlford Doucet, of Welsh; three brothers, Louis Trime of Welsh, J.S. Trime of Elton and Anthony Trime; and one granchild. Pallbearers were Harold Trime, John Trime, Wilton Trime, Clyde Bertrand , D.H., Brown and J.C. Clements. Page 6 Last Rites Held for Albert Besse Monday in Rayne RAYNE, La. Dec. 13. (Spl.) Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday for Albert L. Besse 70, who died at 11 a.m. Sunday morning at the home of his son, Dave Besse, Sr. failing a illness of one week. Services were held from St. Joseph's Catholic church here. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. A widely known real estate man, civic leader and member of a pioneer Rayne family, Mr. Besse was born in Napoleonville, LA. on October 18, 1879, and moved to Rayne as a young boy. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. P.F. Besse, Sr. He was employed by the T and N O railroad in Rayne, later going to Washington, D.C. where he became a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks. He went to Atlanta, Ga., in 1928 where he was employed by several railroads and retired from the railroad industry in 1937, at the time being employed by the Southern Railway system in Atlanta. He was a member of the Catholic church and was active in the St. Joseph church program here. He was one of the first members of the Rayne Lions club and a member of the Young Men's Business club. Survivors are his wife, the former Miss Susie E. Shive of New Orleans; three sons, Ralph Besse of Oakland, Calif., Alden Besse of Los Angeles, Calif., and Dave A. Besse, Sr., of Rayne. Also, two brothers, Fred Besse of New Orleans and C.H. Besse of Rayne, and three sisters, Mrs. Price Hains of Rayne, Mrs. S. Badger and Miss Louise Besse of New Orleans and eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
