In 1985 he was named Louisiana Restaurateur of the Year by the Louisiana Restaurant Association and in 1997 was named Business Person of the Year by the Jennings Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Jennings Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Louisiana Restaurant Association Board of Directors and the Louisiana Retailers Association Board of Directors. He was a lifetime certified hypnotherapist and earned a doctor of philosophy in hypnotherapy in 1989 from the American Institute of Hypnotherapy. A member and elder of First Church of Christ, he was a 32nd Degree Mason, Past Grand Master, Jennings Lodge. He was owner of Charles Cox and Associates and had been a practicing psychologist in Lake Charles for over 30 years. He was a board Certitied Psychologist and Social Worker and was a retired psychologist for the Calcasieu Parish School Board. He was one of the founders of the Guidance Center of Lake Charles. He had degrees from Austin College, the University of Houston, LSU and American University. He was a consulting psychologist for the Allen Correctional Center psycho-social group, "The Insight Group." A member of the National Register of Mental Health Care Providers and National Association of Social Workers, he had served as past president of the Southwest Louisiana Psychological Association and past secretary of the Louisiana Psychological Association. He was an active member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church where he was a member of the chancel choir and a former Sunday School teacher. He also was a past member of the Board of Directors of Artists Civic Theatre and Studio and a member of the Lake Charles Kiwanis Club. He devoted much of his time to volunteer work with various public agencies including 10 years as group counselor for the Displaced Homemakers, Women in Transition Program, the Elderly Protection Services and the Children's Athletic Program. He also volunteered his time to the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, Office of Community Services, and formed and participated in such programs as Teen Summit (1, 11, 111, IV), Partners in Manhood, Project Tipp, and Parenting and Teen Cluster at Boys' and Girls' Club, Potter's House, Calcasieu Parish School Board, Shattuck St. Annex, and various other community centers. In 1985 he was named Louisiana Restaurateur of the Year by the Louisiana Restaurant Association and in 1997 was named Business Person of the Year by the Jennings Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Jennings Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Louisiana Restaurant Association Board of Directors and the Louisiana Retailers Association Board of Directors. He was a lifetime certified hypnotherapist and earned a doctor of philosophy in hypnotherapy in 1989 from the American Institute of Hypnotherapy. A member and elder of First Church of Christ, he was a 32nd Degree Mason, Past Grand Master, Jennings Lodge. A native of Houston and a resident of Lake Charles for 40 years, he served as a lieutenant commander in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was owner of Charles Cox and Associates and had been a practicing psychologist in Lake Charles for over 30 years. He was a board Certitied Psychologist and Social Worker and was a retired psychologist for the Calcasieu Parish School Board. He was one of the founders of the Guidance Center of Lake Charles. He had degrees from Austin College, the University of Houston, LSU and American University. He was a consulting psychologist for the Allen Correctional Center psycho-social group, "The Insight Group." A member of the National Register of Mental Health Care Providers and National Association of Social Workers, he had served as past president of the Southwest Louisiana Psychological Association and past secretary of the Louisiana Psychological Association. He was an active member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church where he was a member of the chancel choir and a former Sunday School teacher. He also was a past member of the Board of Directors of Artists Civic Theatre and Studio and a member of the Lake Charles Kiwanis Club. He devoted much of his time to volunteer work with various public agencies including 10 years as group counselor for the Displaced Homemakers, Women in Transition Program, the Elderly Protection Services and the Children's Athletic Program. He also volunteered his time to the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, Office of Community Services, and formed and participated in such programs as Teen Summit (1, 11, 111, IV), Partners in Manhood, Project Tipp, and Parenting and Teen Cluster at Boys' and Girls' Club, Potter's House, Calcasieu Parish School Board, Shattuck St. Annex, and various other community centers. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church of Sulphur, Masonic Lodge 364, Sulphur Odd Fellows 110, and Eastern Star 209. Survivors are his wife, Gracie Harrington Crump; one son, Bobby Troy "Bob" Crump of LaPlace; one brother, Larry "Jack" Crump of Hemphill, Texas; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
