Mr. Gabbard died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, in a Jasper, Texas. hospital. A native of Queen City, Texas and a former longtime resident of Sulphur, La., he lived in Broaddus, Texas for a year. He was a retired shift supervisor for Cities Service Oil Co. A native of Beaumont, Texas, he was a longtime resident of Lake Charles. He had attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, Ariz., and was the former owner and operator of Gambrell Vending Co. He was a member of Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, was a sponsor of Ducks Unlimited for over 30 years and was a past member of the Kiwanis Club and YMBC. He is survived by his son, Thornton Reed Gambrell of Lake Charles. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Ducks Unlimited, the family said. GANO, Gordon L. A native of E1 Dorado, Ark.,. she attended E1 Dorado public schools, received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Arkansas, and continued her studies in music, Spanish, and philosophy at McNeese State University. Moving to Lake Charles in 1945, she was a member of Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd; held parochial and convocational offices in Episcopal Church Women, including convocation president, and was in charge of the Episcopal Day School library. She was a member of the Lake Charles Little Theater since the 1940s where she served as secretary, chairman of props, front-of-the-house membership, and publicity. She was a member of the Lake Charles Symphony Auxiliary, the Lake Charles Affiliate Artists Committee, and the Calcasieu Arts Council Advisory Committee. She had been president of the Lake Charles Country Club Auxiliary and was a member and officer in Arts Associates of Lake Charles. She received a "Friends of McNeese" plaque, was honored for her service to the "Messiah", was a patroness of Sigma Alpha Iota, honor music fraternity, and was honored by Bishop Nolan Episcopal Day School for establishing and operating the ibrary. She served on the Boards of Arts Associates, Lake Charles Little Theater, Rosa Hart Foundation, and theCalcasieu Arts and Humanities Council. She was named Queen of the Beau Arts Ball in 1984 for her contribution to the Arts and Humanities in Calcasieu Parish. Survivors are her son, Gordon Lee Gano Jr. of Dallas; and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Lake Charles Little Theater or the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, the family said. He retired in 1976 as a supervisor with Missouri Pacific after 30 years of service. He was organist for Episcopal churches in Houston and DeQuincy for 40 years. The Rev. D. John Senette will officiate at the memorial service. A native of Danbury, Conn., she graduated from Lake Charles High School and received a B.S. in nursing from McNeese State University. At the time of her death, she was a registered nurse and director of utilization review at DePaul Hospital in New Orleans. She was a member of Christ Church Episcopal Cathedral in New Orleans and a member of the Junior League. Survivors are one daughter, Elizabeth Susan Gayle Fox of Charlotte, N.C.; one son, Stuart Gedge Gayle of New Orleans; two sisters, Judith E. Scholes of Dallas, and Susan E. He was a former alderman for the city of Iowa and was a charter board member of the first Board of Aldermen when the city of Iowa incorporated and was apst member of the Ward 8 Drainage Board. A native ofNew Orleans, he was educated in New Orleans public schools and atttended Tulane's school of Business Administration. After graduating from LSU School of Law in 1936, he gan to practice law in Lake Charles. He joined the firm of Lisdow and Lewis in 1939 and was a partner there until he retired in 1974.Haaving completed reserve officer training at LLSU, he was a second lieutenant with the 82nd Airborne Division. Graduating from Command and General Staff School at Fort Leavenworth in 1943, he completed parachute training and was in campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Normandy, Holland, the Battle of the Bulge and the invasion of Germany,,. In July 1945 he was a lieutenat colonel commanding an infantry battalion. He was woulded in assault of Siegfried Line and was awarded two Silver Stars and a Purple Heart. He was a life member of the LSU Founoation and was a member of the Order of the Coif, an honorary legal society. He served as president of the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association in 1952, was a member of the Council of the Louisiana- State Law Institute and served on the council to enact a mineral code for Louisiana, as well as the Matrimonial Regimes Committee and the committee to revise the successions and donation laws of the state. He was a member and chairman of the Judiciary Commission of the State of Louisiana overseeing the conduct of state judges. He was a member of the American, Louisiana, and Southwest Louisiana Bar associa tions and a charter member of Campanile Charities Inc., an LSU scholarship fund. Survivors include one son, Richard E. He was an expert in Gulf Coast Petroleum formation evaluation and was a pioneer in developing sidewall core analysis techniques and procedures. He developed an analysis that significantly advanced the level of accuracy for predicting oil and gas production for the Gulf Coast. He was a member of The National Society of Professional Well Log Analysists, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Society of Independent Petroleum Earth Scientists, Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Lafayette Geological Society. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Lafayette and served on several church committees. He attended McNeese State University and received a B.A. degree in social studies and government from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a M.Ed. in counseling and guidance from McNeese. While at MSU, Green participated in the ROTC program and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army, serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars and in Berlin during the construction of the Berlin Wall. He taught in the ROTC program at McNeese and retired with the rank of major after 25 years of service. He also taught in the Calcasieu Parish school system for 22 years and retired after serving as a counselor at LaGrange Senior High School. At the time of his death, Green was serving his fifth term as a Calcasieu Parish Police Juror. During his tenure he served on numerous committees, including the Courthouse and Jail Planning committees, Police Jury liaison to McNeese and Lake Charles, the Mayor's Armed Forces Committee, and Veterans Memorial Park Advisory. He was a member of the Louisiana State Police Jury Association, and had served as the association's civil defense chairman. He was a member of theW. B. Williamson Post 1 of the American Legion, heading the Boys State program for 25 years and past vice commander. He also was a member of VFW Post 2130 and the Vietnam Veterans. For McNeese, he had served on the McNeese Foundation President's Circle, as past president of the McNeese Alumni Association, and on the Alumni Board for 14 years. He was a past president of the Cowboy Club, a charter board member of the Football Club, a member of the Alumni Founders 100 Club, the Tip-Off Club, the Cowgirl Club and the Friends of the McNeese Library. He was a charter member of the Pinch Hitter's Club and past president of the McNeese Quarterback Club.
