Visitation is from 8 a.m. A rosary was said Sunday. Mrs. Habetz died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, in the Jennings hospital. She was a member of the Altar Society in Raymond and in Roberts Cove. In 1964, she was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court: Our Lady of Grace. She was a choir member, and taught catechism for over 25 years. She belonged to the Legion of Mary Auxiliary and was a Eucharistic Minister to the sick. Survivors include two sons, P.J. and Patrick Habetz, both of Ragley; three daughters, Sr. Lawrence Habetz, O. Carm. of New Orleans, Patricia Augustine of Fenton, and Kathleen Compton of Pine Island; one brother, Tony Hensgens of Lake Arthur; three sisters, Gertrude Monlezun of Lake Arthur, Leona Berken of Thornwell and Clarice Gauthreaux of Thibodaux; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher; and a member of Eastern Star Leesville Lodge and the Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include one son, Luke H. He served as secretary and insurance agent of the parish Farm Bureau for many years, was on the board of directors of the Roanoke Rice Drier Coop, and was a member of Jeff Davis Cattleman's Assoc. For 30 years, he was the self-supported pastor and elder of Roanoke Church of the Brethren, was executive secretary of the Southern Plains District (Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma) of the Church of the Brethren, and served several times as a delegate to the national standing committee of the church. He had been a trustee of McPherson College for 45 years and a scout master in Jennings. A native and longtime resident of Lake Charles, he was the first orthodontist in the area, having earned the first board certification in Louisiana, and practiced orthodontics for 35 years. He was awarded the FACD, FICD and OKU status, and was instrumental in starting the LSU Resident program, was an associate professor of orthodontics for 19 years and helped design the graduate program in which the Jerry Hebert Award for Excellence is given to a graduate student each year. He was a graduate of Loyo a University School of Dentistry and the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Medicine. He was a consultant to the Crippled Children's Association and the Cleft Palate Clinic and presented a paper before the European Society of Orthodontics in Paris, France, in 1965. He was a member of the Louisiana and American Dental associations and received numerous awards including Outstanding Dentist Award Seventh Dental Assoc. 1968, member Federation Dentarie International, Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics, Fellow of the International College of Dentists, Honorary Scholastic Awards 1981, OKU Society, Fellow American College of Dentists 1982 and charter member College of Diplomates. He served as a Navy lieutenant in the Korean War.
