She was an alumna of St. Louis Catholic High School and was a cum laude graduate of McNeese State University with a bachelor's and a master's degree in chemistry. She was a chemistry instructor and co-assistant chemistry department head at McNeese. She also was an advisor to chemistry majors. She was an alternate counselor of the American Chemical Society. She was a member of the McNeese Organization for Science and Technology and the Louisiana Bayou Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and an at-large member of the school board of the Immaculate Cathedral School. Survivors include her husband, Mark Abel; two sons, Marcus Paul Abel and Patrick Douglas Abel; one daughter, Blair Elizabeth Abel; and her mother, Jeanne Burke, all of Lake Charles. Christopher Cowan — 4/1/2002 DEQUINCY — Christopher Michael Cowan, 16, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, in DeQuincy. He was a native of Long Beach, Calif., and lived in Tyler, Texas, before moving to DeQuincy in 1995. He was a sophomore at South Beauregard High School and was a member of the band and Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Gillis and was a former member of Lakeview Church of the Nazarene in Tyler. Survivors include one brother, C.J. She was a graduate of Jennings High School, and she attended Louisiana State Normal College. She was a homemaker, a bookkeeper and a substitute teacher at Fenton High School. Johnny Keleman — 4/1/2002 JASPER, TEXAS — Johnny Keleman, 59, died Friday, March 29, 2002, in the Jasper hospital. He was a native of Galveston, Texas, and a former resident of Lake Charles. He was a longtime resident of Jasper. He played for Galveston in the 1954 Little League World Series held in Williamsport, Pa. He was a carpet salesman and Installer, and he had owned Kelemen Fashion Floors in Jasper since 1988. He was a member of the Crystal Beach Eagles Lodge #3719.
