Carpenter Funeral services for George D. "Captain" Carpenter, 88, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 27, in Hixson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Westlake. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. Monday. Mr. Carpenter died at 10:23 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 1998. A native of Taylors Island, Md., he moved to Lake Charles in 1932. He went to sea when he was 18 and served in the Merchant Marines as Master of the Vessel during World War II. He was the former owner of Harbor Docking and Towing (1952-1990) and worked as a harbor pilot for the Port of Lake Charles (1946-1953). He was a member of the Propeller Club, the Westlake Lions Club, the 700 Club and the Pioneer Club. Survivors include his wife, Lola Frieu Carpenter of Lake Charles; two sons, Glen Allen Carpenter and Edgar F. Carpenter, both of Westlake; three daughters, Edith Carpenter McKinney and Jenell Carpenter Neely, both of Westlake, and Gail Carpenter Landry of Lake Charles; one stepdaughter, Christi Marcantel Von Rosenberg; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
