Dubard duwhit@aol.com August 6, 2009, 9:26 am American Press - Pub Date: 22 Feb 2007 - Page: A2 Irene Prudhomme Gothreaux, 91, passed into the loving arms of her Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007, of a stroke at Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born Christmas Day, 1915, in Pine Island, La. to Tolise and Hammy Prudhomme. Irene always said that she "was the best Christmas present her mother could ever have had." Irene met Murphy Gothreaux at a dance and married him at age 15. They had four children - John Robert (J.R.), Vella, Leland and Harold. She was a living, dedicated mother and homemaker who often spent days cooking everyone's favorite dish for family gatherings. She loved her Lord and Saviour. She enjoyed gardening, playing Pokeno almost daily and living with her sister, Mildred. She was also a 16-year member of the Ladies' Altar Society. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Murphy and oldest son, J. R. She is survived by her children, Vella Gothreaux and husband, William of Deer Park, Texas; sons, Leland Gauthreaux(sic) and wife, Ann of Oceanside, Calif.; Harold Gothreaux and wife, Lucille of Lake Charles and daughter-in- law, Lois Gothreaux of Iowa, La.; grandchildren, Sharon Mouton and husband, Robert, Sheryl Lyles and husband, Donn, Rick Gauthreaux(sic) and wife, Heidi, Robin Iverson and husband, Mike; Kathy Chafin and husband, Mark, Kurtis Gothreaux and wife, Paula, Mike Gothreaux and wife, Traci, Lisa O'Blanc and husband, Steve, Danny Gothreaux, Billy Gothreaux, and granddaughter-bychoice, Kandee Allen; great grandchildren, Kristen and Jereby Chafin, Katlyn and Noelle Gothreaux, Cole O'Blanc, Micah Mouton and wife, Amanda, Tiffany and Dustin Lyles and Tina Jamerson. She is also survived by her sisters, Mildred Landry and Eva Holland of Lake Charles and Mabel Hill and Cecile Anthony of Garland, Texas; along with numerous nieces and nephews, especially niece Terry Landry, who took amazing care of her "Aunt Reen." Irene, a truly gracious, loving and caring person will be missed by many family members, along with distant relatives and friends. Visitation will be 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Feb. 23, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. at Hixson Funeral HOme and will continue from 8 a.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be at Christ the King Church at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24. The Rev. Wayne LeBleu will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Garden.
