Alexander died Monday, May 1, 2000, in a local hospital. He was a native of Elton and had lived in Lake Charles for 35 years. He was pastor of Brownsville Church of God in Christ. He was secretary of the First Jurisdiction and of the Lake Charles District and was a member of the Bishop's Advisory Committee and past president of the church youth department. Survivors include his wife, Lucille P. Alexander of Lake Charles; one son, William L. Alexander of Houston; two daughters, Brenda Alexander of Houston and Wanda Ruth Warren of Berkeley, Calif.; one brother, Shelton Alexander of DeQuincy; two sisters, Dorothy Proby and Lucille Mallet, both of Los Angeles; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Broussard died Monday, May 15, 2000, in Jennings. He was a native of Sulphur and had lived in Welsh since 1957. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus and was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Agnes Broussard of Welsh; one son, Glenn R. BROWN, Billy Joe Sr. LCAP 5/5/2000 Funeral services for Billy Joe Brown Sr., 66, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 6, in Johnson Funeral Home. Mr. Brown died at 5:40 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2000, in a local hospital. A native of Livingston, Texas, he lived in Lake Charles most of his life. He was a graduate of Marion High School and McNeese State University. He received his master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from McNeese in 1963. He served as a staff sergeant in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. In 1968, he was appointed registrar of students at McNeese and in 1975 became dean of Educational Services. He was appointed executive director of Educational Services in 1987 and served in that position until his retirement in 1989. He was a former board member of the Board of Trustees of Colleges and Universities and a former member of the Louisiana Board of Regents, Data Processing and Higher Education Committee. He was also the state liaison for the U.S. Council for the International Year of the Disabled Person. He was former secretary and treasurer for the Louisiana Asociation of College Registrars, a member of the Association of General and Liberal Studies and a member of the Chamber/Southwest. He als served on the arbitration panel for the Lake Charles Better Business Bureau. He was a lifelong member of Lake Charles Bible Church where he served on the board of deacons. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Armentor Brown; one son, Billy Joe Brown of Lake Charles; two daughters, Mrs. Charlie (Brenda) Sonnier of Kinder and Mrs. Buddy (Glenda) Sweat of Iowa; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He earned the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Combat Medic Badge, two Bronze Stars, a presidential citation and 16 additional citations and ribbons. He retired as a captain in 1962. Mrs. Wilkerson died Friday, May 12, 2000, in a Lake Charles care facility. A native of Memphis, Tenn., she was a resident of the DeQuincy area for the past 40 years. She was a past Pentecostal pastor, ministering in Indiana and Louisiana. She was a native of Port Arthur, Texas, and had lived in Lake Charles for more than 50 years. She worked for the city tax assessor's office and the Calcasieu Parish School Board and at First United Methodist Church. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include one niece, Cathy Parnell; and one nephew, Lee Keever, both of Lake Charles. WILLIAMS, Laura H. Mrs. Williams died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, in a local hospital. She was a native of Elton and lived most of her life in DeQuincy. She was a member of and a deaconess at Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church. She was a member of the church Sunday school, mission department, Bible study and prayer band. Survivors include two sons, Darrell Williams of Fresno, Texas, and Clarence Edward Williams of DeQuincy; four daughters, Esther Goodly and Marguerite Clark, both of Lake Charles, Christina Williams of Baytown, Texas, and Martha Raye Carrier of DeQuincy; one brother, Wilton Gray of Port Allen; one sister, Betty Doyle of DeQuincy; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
