Obituary: DR. TOFFEE NASSAR JR. At McNeese 25 years

Nassar dead at 58; funeral Wednesday

Funeral services for Dr. Toffee Nassar Jr., 58, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, 
April 10, at University United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Lael Jones and Dr. Thomas Dunbar will officiate. Burial will be in Blackjack 
Cemetery near Grant under direction of Johnson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today, April 9, at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. 
Wednesday at the church.

Dr. Nassar died at 2:15 a.m. Monday, April 8, 1991, in a local hospital.

A graduate of Sulphur High School, he received his bachelor of arts degree from the 
University of Southwestern Louisiana and master of education degree in counseling and 
guidance from McNeese State University. He received his doctorate of education in 
special education from the University of Texas, where he served as director of the 
Cerebral Palsy Center.

Dr. Nassar was a professor at McNeese for 25 years, the last 14 as head of the psychology
department and special education. Most recently, he had been program director of the
Adolescent Dual Diagnosis Center at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.

He was a member of University United Methodist Church, Lake Charles Racquet Club, 
Council for Exceptional Children, Southwest Louisiana Psychological Association, 
Louisiana Association of School Executives, Association of Department Heads of P
sychology, Louisiana Association of Counselor Educators Louisiana Psychological 
Association, Phi Delta Kappa, Blue Key and Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities.

Dr. Nassar served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Nelva Jean Williams Nassar; one son, William Toffee Nassar; 
two daughters, Debra Nassar Dubard and Cynthia Nassar Baggett, all of Lake Charles; 
one brother, Richard S. Nassar of Hot Springs, Ark.; two sisters, Evelyn Nassar 
Lamartina of Sulphur and Kathryn Nassar Cox of Houston, and two granddaughters.
