Burkhart, a resident of Nashville for 41 years who died in her sleep about midnight Monday (August 4, 1952) at her home on Sand Hill. She was 75 years of age. Services were held at the First Baptist Church with Rev. W. E. Perry, pastor, conducting. Burial was in Nashville cemetery. She was born at Evening Shade in Sharp County on October 20, 1876, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Powell. On December 23, 1894 she was married to J. P. Burkhart who was farming then near Magnolia. Mr. and Mrs. Burkhart moved to Nashville in 1911. She attended the Baptist Church. She was born at Pine Bluff on August 4, 1917, a daughter of the late Lewis Henry and Ellen Terral Gammill. She was raised and received her early education at Pine Bluff. She graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1935 and went to college at Brookhaven, Mississippi, for a year. She worked for Fox Brothers Hardware at Pine Bluff. She and her husband lived at Black Oak, Arkansas; Rolling Fork, Mississippi; and Krotz Springs, Louisiana, during the early years of their marriage. She lived in Pine Bluff while her husband was in the service during World War II. They moved to Alexandria and at Lake Charles, Louisiana, after the war before they moved to Pine Bluff. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church at Pine Bluff. She was also a fan of Arkansas Razorback football and basketball. Survivors include her husband, Fred D. Davis Jr., whom she married at Pine Bluff on July 5, 1940; a son, Judge Fred D. Davis III of White Hall; and four grandchildren.
