Mrs. LILLIAN BATTE SUTHERLAND Listed in the Lake Charles American Press Monday, June 5, 1944 Mrs. Sutherland Dies Sunday Mrs. Lillian Batte Sutherland, 69, died at St. Patrick’s Hospital Sunday, June 4. Mrs. Sutherland was born in Lay County, Tennessee, and came to Lake Charles in 1898 and has made her home here since that time. She will be remembered for her work in the Salvation Army, where she was known as “Sister Sunshine.” Survivors are here husband, Ralph J. Sutherland, Lake Charles; two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Ferrell of Lake Charles and Mrs. D.H. Brunt of Jennings; three grandsons, Pfc. Will F. Ferrell, Sgt. Ralph J. Ferrell and John D. Sutherland, Jr.; three granddaughters, Mrs. Callie Golden and Mrs. Lillian Bowers, both of Houston, and Mrs. Dorothy Corkran of Lake Charles. Funeral services will be held from the residence, 1105 Maple Street, with Rev. Modest Pemberton, pastor of Calcasieu Tabernacle, officiating, The hour will be announced later, pending word from relatives. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery with the Hixson funeral home in charge.
