SAVENIA SONNIER FAMILY OBITUARIES FROM THE AMERICAN PRESS NEWSPAPER The following American Press newspaper obituaries are for Edval, Joseph, and Josephine Sonnier and their spouses. Edval, Joseph and Josephine Sonnier were three of the seven children of Savenia Sonnier and Marguerite Anunciad Sonnier. Edval Sonnier married Julia Broussard, daughter of Jules Rene Broussard and Melissa Lejeune-Young. Joseph Sonnier married Azema Cormier, daughter of John L. Cormier and Mary Berry. Josephine Sonnier married Ezeb Lejeune-Young, son of Pierre Lejeune-Young and Louisa Conner. The other children of Savenia and Anunciad Sonnier were Caroline Sonnier who married Charles William Jackson, Savan (Mina) Sonnier who married Jane Jackson, Mary Carmelia Sonnier who married Bugg Kidd, and Duval Sonnier. Mr. Sonnier was a life-long resident of Vinton and is survived by a large family in that community. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9 o’clock at the family residence, Rev. R. A. Corley, Pastor of the Baptist church officiating. Burial under the direction of the Hixon and Sons funeral home, will be made at the Toomey cemetery. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Julia Sonnier, four sons, John of Starks, Felix of New Iberia, Raymond of Vinton, and Eulice of Sulphur: and the following daughters: Mrs. V. Berry, Mrs. J. H. Lee, Mrs. Cleve Berry, Mrs. Carl Cormier, all of Vinton; Mrs. H. A. Bouge of Port Arthur and Mrs. Lucien Trahan of New Iberia: two brothers, Joe and Duval of Vinton; one sister, Mrs. Ezra Young of Vinton; 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. American Press December 14, 1946 MRS. JULIA SONNIER DIES IN VINTON Special to American Press SULPHUR, LA-Dec. 12th -- Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Sonnier, 86, of Vinton, will be held Friday at 10 o’clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Cleve Berry, in Vinton. The Rev. H. G. Calvin of the Catholic church in Vinton will officiate. Interment will be in the Le Deoux cemetery in Toomey under the direction of the Hixson funeral home of Sulphur. Mrs. Sonnier died at 12:15 a.m. Thursday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Cleve Berry. She had lived all her life in Vinton. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Cleve Berry, Mrs. Valerie Berry, Mrs. Carl Cormier, and Mrs. J. H. Lee, all of Vinton, and Mrs. A. H. Bury of Port Arthur; four sons, Philip Sonnier of New Iberia, John Sonnier of Vinton, and Raymond and Elias Sonnier, both of Orange. Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Smith of Bell Flower, Calif., Mrs. Virggin Garrie of Vinton, and two brothers, Albert Broussard of Hackberry, and Drozen Broussard of Elton. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren 34 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. The pallbearers will be Adam Gobert, Noel Hulbert, Otis Duhon, Cecil Young, Carvel Nelson and H.N. Sonnier. American Press December 9, 1940 JOSEPH SONNIER, 68, FARMER AT TOOMEY, SUCCOMBS TODAY JOSEPH SONNIER, 68, died at 2:30 a.m. today at his home in Toomey. He was born in Vinton and had been a farmed in that community all his life. Survivors are his wife; one son, Johnson Sonnier, Toomey; two daughters, Mrs. Pearl Kidd, Newcamy, Tex., and Mrs. Annie Jackson, Johnson’s Bayou; one sister, Mrs. Josephine Young, Vinton, and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the family residence Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Mr. Guillory, pastor of the Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be in the Toomey cemetery with Hixson funeral home in charge. American Press February 15, 1960 MRS. A. SONNIER OF VINTON DIES, RITES TUESDAY VINTON (Spl) -- Funeral services for Mrs. Azema Sonnier, 86, of Route 1, Vinton, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hixson funeral home in Sulphur, with the Rev. R. E. Miller, pastor of the First Baptist church of Vinton, officiating. Burial will be in the Toomey cemetery near Vinton. Mrs. Sonnier died at 5:50 p.m. Sunday in the West Calcasieu-Cameron hospital in Sulphur after a short illness. She was a lifelong resident and a member of a pioneer family of the area. Her husband, Joe Sonnier, preceded her in death in 1940. Survivors are one son, Johnson Sonnier of Vinton; two daughters, Mrs. Sam Jackson of Vinton and Mrs. Paul Kidd of New Caney, Tex.; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Lina Lyons of Sulphur. American Press February 3, 1969 MRS. JOSEPHINE YOUNG VINTON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine Young, 83, were to be at 3 p.m. today from St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. William Hanafia, M.S., pastor, was to officiate. Burial was to be in Cormier Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Sulphur. Mrs. Young died at 11:15 a.m. Sunday in West Calcasieu-Cameron Hospital. She was a native of Cameron Parish. Survivors are one son, Horace M. Young of Vinton; two daughters, Mrs. Pierre Bellow of Vinton and Mrs. J. J. Dartez of Sulphur; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. American Press May 20, 1954 EZEB YOUNG, 65, DIES AT VINTON, SERVICES TOMORROW VINTON, LA. (Spl.) -- Funeral services for Ezeb Young, 65, a resident of Vinton for 40 years, will be held at 9 a.m. Friday from St. Joseph’s Catholic church here with the Rev. A. Nadeau, pastor, officiating. Burial directed by Hixson’s funeral home of Sulphur will be in the LeDoux cemetery at Toomey. The body was at the family residence here, where rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. tonight. Mr. Young died at 7 p.m. Wednesday at his home, following an illness of five months. A native of Cameron, Mr. Young had been employed as a watchman at the shipyards in Orange, Texas, and was a member of St. Joseph’s church. Survivors include his wife; one son, Horace, Vinton; two daughters, Mrs. Pierre Bellow of Vinton and Mrs. J. J. Dartez of Sulphur; seven grandchildren; one brother, Albert Young of Big Lake; and two sisters, Mrs. Don Courmier, Vinton and Mrs. Joseph Guidry of Big Lake.
