Ryan Matthew Vezinot, 24, passed away in the early morning of Wednesday, July 2, 2008, 8 1/2 months after being hit by a drunk driver as he and two friends were walking from the LSU-Auburn game in Baton Rouge on the night of Oct. 20, 2007. Ryan was born Sept. 2, 1983, in Lake Charles. He attended Prien Lake Elementary School, S.J. Welsh Middle School and Barbe High School, finishing school in 2001. Ryan attended McNeese State University and Sowela Technical College. As evidence of Ryan's kindness and selflessness, he chose to donate his organs to help others after his passing. Because of Ryan's tremendous gift, he was able to save the lives of or help the recovery of five fortunate people. We thank Debbie Lacassin with the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) for her compassion and guidance through this process. Ryan fought bravely through his accident, his many surgeries, infections and related illnesses and was strong to the very end. Survived by his devoted mother, Julie Vezinot, of Baton Rouge; his granny, Barbara Dartez, and her husband, Pete, of Lake Charles; his paw paw, Robert Vezinot, of Lake Charles; his uncle, Nick Vezinot, of Hawaii; his aunt, Christine Vezinot, of Houston; his uncle and aunt, Matthew and Stacey Vezinot, of Lake Charles; cousins, Meagan and Molly Vezinot, of Lake Charles; and his beloved cats, Chloe, Soxey, Gracie, Simon and Sadie.
