Ardoin Cove, Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana Ardoin Cove Cemetery is
located in Ardoin Cove; a small settlement about 6 miles south of I-10
between Lacassine and Welsh, LA, off highway 101. Etienne Ardoin, who had
wed Felicite Guillory on April 17, 1843 in Opelousas, La, was the first to
settle the Cove. Information on Ardoin Cove Cemetery was obtained through
conversations with Ella Frederick Landry, who is a grand daughter of
Cyprien Ardoin, a son of Etienne Ardoin. Prior to his passing the estate
was used for highland farming (cotton, corn, potatoes and vegetables). Upon
his passing March 7, 1933 his land, which was approximately 200 acres, was
divided amongst his heirs; four sons and five daughters. Ellen Ardoin,
mother of Ella Frederick Landry, drew the parcel of land where the cemetery
had already begun and donated some additional acreage for cemetery use in
the future. Families of the deceased maintain the cemetery at no charge.
Fundraisers are held to raise money when repairs are needed and plots are
still available for purchase. This quiet peaceful corner by the edge of the
woods is fenced in yet open at all times.   Near the center of the cemetery
there is a flagpole donated by the Veterans Administration.  A large steel
beam cross was built and erected, by the Etienne Motte family in his
memory.   There is also a large angel that has been donated in memory of
the Joseph Hardy family.  Along the northern edge of the fence under a tree
is a lovely bench donated in memory of Ava Broussard.
