Pg. 1 Tutorship of minor heirs of Wm. H. Richmond Deed. Application and appointment of Mary Ann Miles as maternal tutor. Filed: Dec. 16th, 1867 J.W. Humble, clerk The prayer of the within petitioner being duly considered and the law and the evidence being in favor of the petitioner, it is ordered and adjudicated that she, Mary Ann Miles be and is hereby confirmed as natural Tutrix of his minor children, Marion Jillson and Sarah Jane Richmond issue of her marriage with William H. Richmond descd. Whom her taking the oath of office required by law done and signed at the Clerks Office in the town of Columbia La. on this 16th day of December 1867. --- J.W, Humble, Clerk State of Louisiana Parish of Caldwell I Mary Ann Miles do solemnly swear that I will well and faithfully discharge and perform all the duties incumbent on me as Maternal Tutrix of Mary, Jillian, and Sarah J. Richmond, minor children of William Harmon Richmond descd. In accordance to the best of my knowledge and understanding so help me God. Court of the State of Louisiana holding sessions in and for the Parish of Caldwell or to the Clerk of said Court – The Petition of Mary Ann Miles a resident of your said Parish and State with due respect represents unto your Honorable Court that on or about the year 1848 she entered into marriage with William H. Richmond with whom she lived as his wife for some 15 years – and that Marion Jillson Richmond aged about 18 years and Sarah Jane Richmond aged 16 years, both minors are the only children of the said marriage with your petitioner – that her husband, the said William H. Richmond died intestate in the Parish of Caldwell on or about the year 1864 leaving a small estate therein – in which your petitioner and his said minor children have an interest in fact are the sole owners by inheritance – that said minors have no Tutor or other representative – that she is the natural Tutrix of said minors – Wherefore she prays that she may be duly appointed and confirmed as Tutrix to her said minor children by a Decree of your Honorable Court and she prays for all such other and further orders and decrees as may be necessary in the _____ and for general relief.- W.St. & T.J. Pg.3 State of Louisiana 12th District Court Parish of Caldwell Clerks Office Whereas Mary Ann Miles has abidance to an order granted by the court aforesaid having taken the oath according to Law as Maternal Matrix of the minor children of Wm. H. Richmond desc. Now therefore she is herby authorized and fully empowered to discharge and perform all and singular the duties as pertaining to the said appointment according to Law. Humble, Clerk Additional Comments: although the text states that William Harmon Richmond died in Caldwell Parish, he actually died in the Military Hospital in Shreveport La. He was a resident of Hebert La. He was wounded in the Red River Campaign and died of viral pneumonia. He served with the 13th La. Partisan Rangers throughout that conflict.
